In order to test the potential of Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) for application in village planning and development,
the ICT4D project of KADO established E-Village Resource Center (E-VRC) in
Altit with the financial support of IDRC. The interventions were made with
the collaboration of Aga Khan Cultural Services, Pakistan (AKCSP)
and community-based local development organizations
in the village. The partner organization provided space, Resource
Person (E-VRP) and supervision of the centers while the project
provided support in terms of equipments, internet facilities on
subsidized rate, training to the manager and office bearers of the
partner organization. The project after continuous supervision
built the capacity of the local partner organization and now the
center is managed by the local organization.
The local community including students, farmers, women, teachers,
business people are utilizing these facilities for communication,
training in computer and internet, and are accessing news and
agriculture related information.
Under this component detailed socio-economic surveys were
conducted and a Village Information System as database has been
developed to provide information about socio-economic, cultural, and
ecological status of the village. In order to provide information
about the village to different development players, researchers,
tourists and local people living outside the village this comprehensive
web site about all aspects of village life has been developed.
In order to develop the E-VRC as a development secretariat for the
village a comprehensive Sustainable Village Development Plan (SVDP)
has been prepared with the help of the local community.
